NewCar101.com Car Review: 2005 Acura MDX

The MDX ranks well above average for the crossover SUV class. The engine is powerful and refined. The transmission shifts smoothly. Acceleration can keep an aggressively driven MDX ahead of some sports cars. Handling is secure and although lean during brisk cornering is quite noticeable, it is not unsettling. The ride is firm, meaning that few bumps will escape the attention of driver or passengers, but still acceptable. For adults, the MDX is roomy and comfortable in the front seats and satisfactory in the second row. The standard split and folding third row seats are for children. Carrying seven passengers leaves little room for cargo.

Conclusion: Sharing its body structure and engine (but not the horsepower rating) with the similar Honda Pilot, buyers should ask themselves whether the Acura nameplate is worth the extra money. A fine performer, the MDX nonetheless loses to the Pilot when the purchase price is considered
